Regent’s Message – Summer 2019

Hello fellow ACHE members! 
 
Over the last few months I have been working to help my hospital to prepare for the transition of sponsorship from the Dominican Sisters of Springfield to the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. Along with being introduced to and working with some great new people, I have had the opportunity to learn much more about St. Francis of Assisi.
 
One quote that is attributed to him has come back to my mind over and over. He said, “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.”
 
What a simple but profound message that can be applied to all aspects of our lives. What you do… how you treat peers, employees, doctors, vendors and family… is usually far more important that what you say.
 
At the Mississippi Healthcare Executives Summer Education in Point Clear I had the great honor to recognize two people who have exemplified this principle throughout their careers. Dave Muns received the Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Award and Michael Zieman received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Both have been past presidents of the MS Healthcare Executives chapter, board members and ever-willing to elevate the profession and serve wherever they have been needed. They have truly led by example and action and I encourage you to reach out to them in congratulations and thanks for their service.
