Once again, congratulations to those listed above!  I hope your new year is off to a great start. As we begin each new year, we often review what we accomplished and did not accomplish in the previous year. Based on this assessment, many of us set new goals or resolutions for the upcoming year. To help each of us with our 2019 goals, I would like to share what I recently learned from an article that was published by the American Psychological Association entitled, “Making Your New Year’s Resolution Stick”. Here is a short checklist we can use to create realistic and achievable News Year’s resolutions.

  • Start small – Make resolutions that you anticipate keeping.
  • Change one behavior at a time – Give yourself time to change.
  • Talk about it – Share your resolutions with family/friends and share your progress.
  • Don’t beat yourself up – If you slip, forgive yourself and get back on track.
  • Ask for support – Be willing to accepting help from those who care about you.

I hope these suggestion help each of us as we move into 2019. I am also excited about 2019 and I am looking forward to seeing you at our Winter 2019 Annual Membership meeting which will take place on February 22 at the MHA Conference Center in Madison, MS. A total of 6.0 F2F hours are available for this event. More information and registration information can be found at https://mhanet.informz.net/informzdataservice/onlineversion/ind/bWFpbGluZ2luc3RhbmNlaWQ9NzIxMDE4OSZzdWJzY3JpYmVyaWQ9OTA0MjQwNzQw. During our meeting, we will also recognize the recipient of our 2018 MISSISSIPPI EARLY CAREER HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVE AWARD. This award recognizes a member who is under the age of 40 and has made a significant impact on the healthcare provided in his/her area or organization with a commitment to the state of Mississippi and the healthcare profession. More details can be found in the link above. The deadline for submitting nominations has been extended to January 25th. Please submit nominations to Candy Brown at cbrown@mhanet.org.

I would also like to invite you to join me and attend the 2019 Congress on Healthcare Leadership which will take place from March 4–7, 2019 in Chicago, IL.  Events will occur at the Hilton Chicago/Palmer House Hilton. More information and registration details can be found at https://congress.ache.org/. This event brings together more than 4,000 healthcare leaders from across the world. I highly encourage you to come and enjoy the F2F sessions and make life-long contacts that will help you throughout your career. This is a wonderful event and I hope to see you there!

In closing, as we move into 2019, I hope each of us are able to achieve more in 2019 and have more success in our personal, family, spiritual, and professional efforts. I also hope we can inspire those we care for to also make the progress they desire as well. This is what we do as members of the American College of Healthcare Executives, we are “Leaders who care”. Thanks again to each of you for all that you do to care for our communities and for the citizens of the great state of Mississippi! I look forward to seeing you soon!

Best Regards for a Successful and Enjoyable 2019,

Chris
